A planned political endorsement rally in favour of President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has been rejected by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu. The event will not take place at the Jubilee Hall of Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, as previously scheduled.
The Diocese stated that it does not allow the use of its churches, parish halls, or other ecclesiastical facilities for partisan political activities, including endorsement rallies, in a statement released on Sunday by Rev. Fr. Anthony Aneke, Director of Communications.
The Diocese was responding to a media report that was making the rounds regarding a “Historic Endorsement Rally and Adoption Ceremony” that will take place in Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, on Friday, July 3, 2026.
The statement emphasises that the location would not be made accessible for the political gathering and claims that the scheduled event does not represent the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’s policy or stance.
“The Catholic Diocese of Enugu would like to declare that it does not allow partisan political rallies, endorsements, or similar actions to take place in its churches, parish halls, or other ecclesiastical facilities. As a result, the political event will not take place at Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, as it does not align with the Diocese’s policies or stance.
The Diocese apologised for any confusion the announcement may have created and asked people to ignore any perception that it supported or approved of the planned political rally.
