FG Approves New Salary Structure for NiMet Staff, Set to Begin in June 2026

The Federal Government has approved a new unified remuneration system for Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) workers in addition to a revised condition of service. The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation formally acknowledged the approval in a letter to the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.
According to the letter dated April 29, 2026, signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the modified salary structure would take effect on June 1, 2026.
The letter stated, “I am directed to convey that the suggested consolidated wage structure for NiMet with an effective date of June 1, 2026 has been accepted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
The paper was titled “Re-Request for Salary Relativity Implementation in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)” and had reference number 58957/S.2/T1/40.
Additionally, it confirmed that the authorisation is consistent with a prior request in a letter dated March 23, 2026, from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
The development is a formal modification to NiMet employees’ compensation system, with implementation scheduled to begin in mid-2026.
