ADC Campaign Council List Released as Aregbesola’s Name Is Missing

The African Democratic Congress has released its presidential campaign council structure for the 2027 election, with several prominent political figures included in the organisation.
The announced council includes ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, his running mate Rotimi Amaechi, party chairman David Mark, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Edo State Governor John Oyegun, among other figures.
However, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola’s name is not included on the announced campaign council list. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, was also absent.
Why Aregbesola’s Absence Attracted Attention
Aregbesola’s absence is notable because he holds a senior position within the ADC’s national leadership and has been involved in the party’s political activities and grassroots organisation.
The omission generated attention because of his position within the party. However, ADC officials have said that the absence of some national party leaders from the campaign council should not automatically be interpreted as a disagreement or departure from the party’s structure.
Bolaji Abdullahi said the absence of some party leaders from the campaign council should not be interpreted as estrangement, explaining that national officers still have important responsibilities within the party.
The distinction is important because a political party’s campaign council is not necessarily identical to its permanent national leadership structure.
The ADC is now expected to use the campaign council to coordinate its presidential campaign activities as political preparations for the 2027 general election increase.
The party’s structure and membership are likely to continue evolving as political figures and groups assess their positions ahead of the election.
