Maduka Okoye Reacts After Udinese Share Points With Como in Serie A Opener
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has expressed satisfaction with Udinese’s performance after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Como in their Serie A clash at the Bluenergy Stadium on Saturday.
Although Udinese were unable to claim all three points at home, Okoye believes the result is valuable against a strong Como side.
Udinese Take Lead Before Half-Time
Udinese started brightly and eventually broke the deadlock in the 29th minute.
Hassane Kamara found the back of the net after receiving a well-timed assist from Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Okoye was also called upon several times as Como looked for a way back into the match, with the Nigerian goalkeeper making important saves to keep Udinese in front.
Como Fight Back After the Break
Como returned from the interval with greater attacking intent and got their reward nine minutes into the second half.
Anastasios Douvikas restored parity for Cesc Fabregas’ team, leaving both sides to battle for the winning goal.
Despite further attempts from both teams, neither could find the decisive finish as the contest ended 1-1.
Okoye Happy With His Contribution
Okoye said he was pleased to help Udinese secure a point, while also praising his teammates for their overall performance.
“It’s an important point. We played against a strong team and we’re happy. We went out there to win, but in the end, a point is great.”
The Nigerian goalkeeper also highlighted the contribution of the entire team rather than focusing solely on his own saves.
“I’m happy to help the team with my saves, but the team played a great game today. We’re all happy.”
The draw gives Udinese a point from the encounter, while Okoye can take confidence from another solid outing between the posts as the Serie A campaign continues.
