Troops operating under Sector 8 of Operation ENDURING PEACE have foiled an attempted attack on Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The security operation took place on Saturday after troops received intelligence about the movement of armed men suspected to be preparing to attack the community.

Security personnel were quickly deployed to the area, forcing the suspected attackers to withdraw towards nearby bushes with their cattle.

The development comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communities have faced attacks and clashes in the past.

Troops Responded After Fresh Security Alert

According to information on the incident, troops received another alert at about 4:12 p.m. concerning an attempt by suspected attackers to infiltrate Manja village.

The soldiers immediately launched a pursuit operation while maintaining a strong security presence around the community.

The response was aimed at preventing the suspected attackers from gaining access to the village and putting residents at risk.

Security forces also carried out offensive patrols and clearance operations across the surrounding areas as they continued efforts to prevent another attempt to enter the community.

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has raised concerns over the conduct of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, warning that alleged fake polling units and voting booths could be used to manipulate the process.

Ayodele issued the warning on Sunday, August 23, 2026, through a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin.

According to the cleric, electoral authorities should pay close attention to the possibility of fake polling locations being established in different parts of the country ahead of the elections.

“I am seeing a lot of fake things regarding the election which the INEC must take seriously,” Ayodele said.

He further claimed that fake polling units, booths and electoral materials could allegedly be spread across the country in an attempt to weaken the votes of some Nigerians.

Beyond the alleged fake polling units, Ayodele also questioned INEC’s level of preparation for the 2027 elections.

A 25-year-old Zambian model and socialite, Lisa Mutambo, has died after reportedly falling seriously ill following a night out with friends in Lusaka.

Mutambo reportedly returned to a residence in the Kalundu area in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, after spending the evening socialising with two female friends.

According to police, the young model began vomiting after arriving at the residence and later became unconscious. She was rushed to Victoria Hospital with the assistance of a friend but was pronounced dead.

Police said Mutambo had spent the evening of August 19 with her two friends at a hotel where she served as an ambassador.

The three women reportedly left the hotel at around 10:30pm and continued their night at another drinking spot in Lusaka.

Between approximately 2:30am and 3:00am, Mutambo’s boyfriend arrived and picked up the three women. He reportedly dropped the two friends off in the Minestone/Casanova area before taking Mutambo to the residence in Kalundu.

It was shortly after they arrived that Mutambo reportedly began vomiting before losing consciousness.

Her boyfriend then contacted a friend for assistance, and the pair took her to Victoria Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death.

Police Investigate Sudden Death

The Zambia Police Service, through Chelstone Police Station, said the death was reported at about 9:30am on Thursday.

Police described the case as a sudden death involving the 25-year-old model and said officers processed both the primary and secondary scenes as part of their investigation.

Mutambo’s body was initially taken to FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to help establish the exact cause of death.

At the time of the police statement, no physical injuries had reportedly been observed on her body.
