NDLEA storms cannabis warehouse in Edo, arrests suspected drug trafficker

Roland Owie, a 37-year-old accused drug dealer, has been taken into custody by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Edo State Command. According to the Newspaper, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the State Commandant of the NDLEA, revealed this in a statement given to reporters in Benin City on Monday, April 6, 2026.
According to Ofoyeju, the suspect, a resident of the Iganke community in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, was taken into custody in relation to 125 bags containing 1,378 kilograms of dried weeds that were thought to be skunk cannabis.
He claimed that after agents discovered and demolished a sizable illegal warehouse in the neighbourhood, the suspect—who is allegedly a member of the drug cartel—was taken into custody and a sizable shipment of cannabis sativa was seized.
According to the NDLEA state commandant, the operation demonstrated the agency’s steadfast dedication to suppressing the narcotics supply.
He emphasised that the bust represents a crucial win in the ongoing battle against substance misuse and the illegal drug trade, adding that the operation was carried out based on reliable intelligence.
“This operation’s effectiveness is evidence of our strategic focus on supply suppression and our unrelenting pursuit of drug cartels. Unquestionably, the recovery of 1,378 kilograms of cannabis in a single operation is a major blow to the network that distributes these dangerous drugs.
He stated, “The significance of intercepting such a large quantity is better appreciated against the backdrop of cutting off drug supply from reaching our streets, our schools, and our communities, thereby saving countless young people from the devastating scourge of addiction.”
He stated that the NDLEA would continue its efforts to reduce demand through advocacy and rehabilitation, while acknowledging that drug supply suppression is still a key component of the organization’s approach.
Cutting off the source is crucial, according to Ofoyeju, who claimed that every kilogram confiscated disrupts the illicit economy, undermines trafficking organisations, and increases public safety.
“This arrest and confiscation makes it very evident to all drug dealers that Edo State is not a sanctuary for illegal activity. We have strong operational and intelligence capabilities, and we have zero tolerance,” he continued.
He urged the public to continue supporting the agency by offering helpful information and praised the professionalism and hard work of the command’s employees for their exceptional performance.
