Tinubu, APC urge court to throw out Atiku’s NYSC certificate suit

President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have moved the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit by Atiku Abubakar challenging the authenticity of the president’s National Youth Service Corps certificate.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has received court documents and filings from legal practitioners closely following the latest legal action against the ruling party.

The defendant’s position is that the plaintiff’s action is frivolous and not deserving of court’s time, citing statute-barred and judicial process abuse reasons.

The case is part of the unresolved legal and political tussles that have characterized the 2023 election cycle and the present pre-2027 period.

Representatives of the president and APC argued that the issues raised have been ventilated in the past and should not be revisited.

Atiku’s counsel, however, contended that the issues raised are pertinent to the people’s interest.

The court has yet to rule on the preliminary objections.

In the political space, the filing has been viewed as an attempt to clear the air of the legal imbroglio ahead of the next campaign surge.

While supporters of the man in power see it as a timely move, critics have seen it as a reminder that the certificate issues are far from being buried.

The court is expected to fix a date to hear arguments from both sides.

Until then, the matter will continue to dominate the limelight as it affects the larger issues of law and politics of the man at the helm of government.

The next court date will decide if the suit will proceed to the next level or be dismissed as the president and APC desire, keeping the dispute in the larger political and legal fray that has engulfed the 2023 election.
