NiMet Issues Fresh Heavy Rain Alert as Five States Face Flood Risk

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a fresh weather alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall expected between Wednesday and Friday, with five states facing an elevated risk of flooding according to the latest forecast.
Communities in low-lying areas have been advised to clear drainage channels and move valuables to higher ground as the downpours approach.
NiMet noted that the rains could come with strong winds capable of bringing down weak structures and power lines. Emergency agencies in the affected states have activated monitoring teams to respond to possible incidents.
Farmers with crops still in the fields are also being urged to harvest what they can before the heavier downpours arrive.
The warning covers both northern and southern zones, where recent weather patterns have already saturated the soil. This could increase the likelihood of flash flooding in vulnerable communities if the rainfall becomes intense.
Residents are advised to remain alert and monitor local radio updates for any escalation or further instructions from emergency authorities.
With the forecast covering several days, early preparation remains important, particularly for people living around flood-prone areas, waterways and communities with poor drainage.
