NAFDAC Destroys N1.5 Trillion in Fake Goods, 64 Offenders Convicted

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has destroyed counterfeit and substandard goods valued at N1.5 trillion and secured the conviction of 64 offenders.
The destroyed items included fake drugs, cosmetics, food products and other regulated commodities seized over recent operations.
NAFDAC Director-General Moji Adeyeye stated that the agency returned to Nigeria after decades abroad specifically to strengthen regulatory enforcement.
The convictions cover manufacturers, distributors and importers who were prosecuted in various courts.
Officials warned that more operations are planned, particularly around major entry points and open markets.
The scale of the destruction is intended to send a clear signal that the cost of dealing in fake goods continues to rise.
Public awareness campaigns are running alongside the enforcement actions to help consumers identify genuine products and avoid potentially dangerous counterfeit commodities.
With enforcement operations and prosecutions continuing, NAFDAC is putting greater pressure on manufacturers, distributors and importers involved in the circulation of fake and substandard goods.
