Nigerian singer Fola has shared the inspiring story of his rise to fame, revealing that he once worked as a Bet9ja cashier in Ibadan before breaking into the Nigerian music industry.

The fast-rising artiste made the revelations during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he reflected on his humble beginnings, family support, career breakthrough, and the mindset that has helped him stay focused despite the pressures of the entertainment industry.

Fola recalled that many people in his hometown only knew him as the young man working at a Bet9ja outlet before his music career changed his life.

According to the singer, returning to Ibadan just a few months after becoming popular made him realize how much his life had transformed.

He explained that the love and support he received from people back home reminded him of how far he had come in such a short period.

His Mother Always Believed He Would Become a Star

The singer said his success never came as a surprise to his mother, who constantly encouraged him while he was growing up.

According to Fola, she repeatedly told him that he was destined for greatness and advised him to remain focused, pray, and stay true to himself.

He added that the confidence his family gave him played a major role in helping him pursue music without fear.

Fola also revealed that his father has always supported his career, even sharing one of his songs with him and praising the production.

How Music Started Because of a School Crush

Fola revealed that his passion for music began during his secondary school days.

He recalled seeing another student who attracted attention from girls because he made music, which inspired him to try songwriting himself.

After copying one of his elder brother’s rap verses and performing it in school, the positive reaction from classmates and teachers convinced him that music was something he wanted to pursue seriously.

He also noted that music has always been part of his family’s lifestyle, especially during their regular morning devotion sessions where everyone sang together.

Bella Shmurda Once Introduced Him to Kizz Daniel

Fola also disclosed that his label boss, Bella Shmurda, once introduced him to Kizz Daniel while discussing a possible record deal.

According to the singer, Kizz Daniel was impressed with his talent and even showed interest in signing him.

However, the deal never materialized, leading him to continue his career through a different path.

Despite missing that opportunity, Fola said he remained committed to his craft and continued working toward success.

Why Fola Refuses to Compare Himself With Other Artistes

Speaking about the competitive nature of the music industry, Fola explained that he deliberately avoids comparing his career with other musicians.

According to him, comparison only creates unnecessary pressure and takes away personal peace.

Instead, he focuses on believing in himself, trusting his journey, and appreciating every achievement without measuring it against someone else’s success.

He said self-confidence has been one of the biggest reasons he has remained motivated throughout his career.

First Major Earnings Went to His Mother

Rather than making luxury purchases, the singer said he bought a piece of land for his mother in Ibadan.

He added that the land was later used to build a church, which his mother started developing about two years ago.

Fola said seeing his parents and siblings doing well remains one of his greatest achievements.

Away from music, the singer briefly spoke about relationships.

When asked what he considers a major red flag in a partner, Fola said he dislikes women who talk excessively, describing it as one of the qualities he tries to avoid.
