Katsina ADC factional crisis deepens as parallel congresses produce rival chairmen

After holding parallel congresses on Tuesday and Thursday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State produced two chairman. Long-time members and recent defectors from other political parties are involved in the party’s continuing leadership issue, which is reflected in this development.

Nasir Umar was appointed secretary-general and Musa Wamba was reinstated as state chairman during the Tuesday congress. However, Mohammed Rimi was elected chairman of a different faction’s congress on Thursday, and Abubakar Adhama was named secretary-general.

The Tuesday exercise was earlier rejected by representatives of the party’s national secretariat, who insisted that recognised congresses were planned for later times and described it as unapproved.

As a result of multiple lawmakers defecting to the party and debates over party structure and leadership, the crisis is occurring amid rising internal tensions.

Uncertainty regarding the party’s leadership in the state has increased as both groups have held onto their posts.
