Rivers 2027: Wike Denies Backing any candidate

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has refuted rumours that he supported a candidate for governor of Rivers State. At the meeting of representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his official home in Life Camp, Abuja, Wike delivered this refutation.
He emphasised that Chief Ferdinand Alabraba’s Elders Council makes these decisions.
However, he reiterated that his only political commitment for the time being is to support President Bola Tinubu, pointing out that his stance has always been unambiguous and consistent.
He cautioned prospective governors against making what he called hasty endorsements, pointing out that no current governor has the authority to force a candidate on Rivers State.
He believes that mistakes made in the past should not be repeated in politics.
The former governor of Rivers State advised interested parties to stick together, saying that unity, not money, is what makes them strong.
“I have not supported any contender for Rivers State governorship. The Elders Council, headed by Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, is the only body with the authority to make such a decision, he stated.
