Haruna Yahaya take in duty as new Commissioner of Police in Jigawa

CP Haruna Alaba Yahaya has formally returned to her position as the state’s new Commissioner of Police, according to the Jigawa State Police Command.

The new commissioner replaced AIG Dahiru Muhammad, who was promoted and redeployed to Zone 15 in Maiduguri, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokeswoman, Shiisu Lawan Adam. On May 18, 1992, CP Haruna, a native of Kogi State’s Ijumu Local Government Area, enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He received his geography degree from the University of Jos.

He has over 30 years of experience and has worked across the country in a number of roles, including operations, administration, and investigations.

Prior to his new assignment, he worked at CP Investment and the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos as a Commissioner of Police in charge of General Investigation.

Additionally, he has held important roles including Deputy Commissioner of Police for operations in Borno State and Deputy Commissioner of Police for intelligence and investigation at the National Central Bureau (INTERPOL) in Abuja.

He also held the positions of Area Commander at the Eastern Ports Authority Police Command and Assistant Commissioner of Police for operations in Enugu State.

The incoming commissioner has pledged to prioritise professionalism, intelligence-driven law enforcement, human rights observance, and improved community collaboration.
