INEC Bye-Elections Hold in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is scheduled to conduct five legislative bye-elections across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The elections will take place across one federal constituency and four State House of Assembly constituencies.
The affected constituencies are Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State, Sakwa and Disina State Constituencies in Bauchi State, and Udu State Constituency in Delta State.
Constituencies and Election Details
According to INEC, voting is scheduled to take place at polling units within the affected constituencies.
The elections are being conducted to fill legislative seats that became vacant for different reasons.
In Gombe, the federal constituency seat became vacant following the death of the lawmaker who previously represented the constituency.
In Kano, the Dawakin Kudu seat became vacant after its former occupant moved to contest a federal constituency election.
The Bauchi vacancies resulted from separate circumstances involving the former occupants of the Sakwa and Disina constituencies.
In Delta, the Udu State Constituency seat became vacant after the former occupant defected from the APC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Election Preparations
The bye-elections provide INEC and participating political parties with another opportunity to test electoral arrangements before the larger 2027 elections.
INEC has continued to publish information about the affected constituencies and election preparations through its official platforms.
The September 19 polls are therefore being closely watched by election observers, political parties and voters in the affected constituencies.
The results will fill the vacant legislative seats, while the conduct of the elections will also form part of the wider electoral preparations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
